10 Non-English Music Releases You Should Know About

We get so caught up with the music we hear on our playlists or radio that we forget that there is a whole lot more that we are unaware of. Just like extra-terrestrials that we don’t know about, they are out there. We have decided to go through all the different types of music from all parts of the earth to see what they offer and the results are incredible. Here we present to you ten incredible music that are not performed in English from ten different countries. Sit back while we take you around the world for some amazing tunes.
1. FRANCE Juniore “Les héros de Barbès”
Juniore is a fun pop band from France that was established in 2013 and have only recently released their first LP titled Ouh là là in 2017. They released the addictive “Les héros de Barbès,” which is a cover of talented songwriter Yves Simon’s song from 1975 off the tribute compilation album called Génération(s) Eperdue(s). With the twangy guitar and ‘60s-infused vibe the music video, you can’t help but to tap along to this amazing cover by Juiniore.
2. INDONESIA Yura Yunita “Takkan Apa”
This beautiful Indonesian singer and songwriter released a new Broadway-inspired song called “Takkan Apa” which means “will not.” Even it is a break-up song, Yura puts a refreshing twist with a comical and cheerful approach to this new single that will definitely put a smile on your face especially after watching this colourful video.
3. JAPAN CRCK/LCKS “No Goodbye”
Tokyo quintet CRCK/LCKS have recently released their EP titled Double Rift. Each member of this Japanese act has played on other projects, so it’s exciting to see how they combine the influences together here. “No Goodbye” is a jazz and soul inspired J-Pop tune that will draw you in immediately with prominent presence of the drum, keyboard and guitar works. It is unlike anything you have ever heard.
4. MEXICO Valgur “Rogelia”
Zapotec language is used by Mexican group Valgur on this wonderful single “Rogelia” which mixes the old and the new beautifully. The language is combined with computer sound effects makes it a fun futuristic tune to blast to. “Rogelia” is actually about the singer’s grandmother who was fighting a terminal illness. It’s a song to pay respect to the past and elders with a very modern stylized video.
5. PERU Gala Brie “Inmortal”
Peruvian artist Gabriela Gastelumendi goes on a musical path to release her solo tune called “Inmortal” and it’s a hypnotizing summery tune. This Spanish song has a feel-good singalong vibe with pure vocals by Gala Brie, who has also previously opened for international acts like Katy Perry and Coldplay. Look out for the release of her upcoming second album too.
6. PUERTO RICO Jazz Bandana “Normal”
Jazz Bandana is one of the best rap acts in Puerto Rico in recent years for over 10 years. Accompanied by a simple aesthetic video by the golf course, Jazz Bandana slides through this “Normal” verses with ease and pizzazz. It is a straight-forward tune that is perfect for a hot summer day with melodic flows that only Jazz Bandana knows how to deliver. It is a dreamy tune.
7. SOUTH KOREA Lee Jin Ah “Run (with Gray)”
There is always a misconception when it comes to Korean pop music, but it has been breaking boundaries just like this jazz-influenced tune “Run” by Lee Jin Ah with rap artist Gray. Lee Jin Ah is no stranger to pushing the boundaries when it comes to her music choices whether it is her airy vocals or jazz-infused. With “Run,” she is definitely breaking walls and putting stereotypes aside by adding a futuristic production by Gray that he is famously known for. With her first album titled Jinah Restaurant Full Course released, the world will finally know what Lee Jin Ah is all about.
8. TAIWAN Angry Youth “It Just Disappear Like That”
Pop punk band Angry Youth from Taiwan blends their rock productions with soul and blues influences. Having been around for many years, but this latest band lineup was only casted a year ago to play music for the younger generation. “It Just Disappears Like That” has a distinctive southern rock guitar sound that talks about the everyday life taken off their debut album Campus Romance.
9. TURKEY Tuğçe Şenoğul “Bıraktığın İzler”
This Tuğçe Şenoğul is giving out major James Bond theme song vibes, then add it with this tight face shot video, it gives a dark witchy feel. Formerly from the duo Seni Görmem İmkansız, the dark sounds were already accompanying her voice. In 2017, Tuğçe released her debut album Gölgelerine and “Bıraktığın İzler” is just as hypnotizing to the soul.
10. VIETNAM Suboi “N-Sao?”
Rapper Suboi from Vietnam released a firing new hip-hop single “N-Sao?” which means “So What?” laced with a trap beat over it. She attacks her rhymes with sassy attitude and the video shot in the streets of Vietnam definitely elevated the single that is best listened to in loud volume.
