And as a DJ, broadcaster and music journalist, she’s mastered all media to share her passion for and deep knowledge of the genre.
With an eclectic mix of club-oriented jazz rhythms and timeless vibes, Edwards’ creates DJ sets that celebrate the genre’s heritage and introduces it to the UK underground club culture. Her radio shows on Worldwide FM, where she’s been a resident for five years, offer a broad spectrum of moods and sounds – ranging from modern jazz to funk and disco – that feel incredibly coherent and mesmerizing.
When we got the chance to sit down with Tina Edwards, we wanted to get into the ‘why’ behind the tastemakers’ love for jazz. What is it about the genre that she holds so dearly? To find out, she takes us back to her first live jazz experience, circa spring 2012.
